| Not bad for the first time! Having entered 5 different varieties of homemade sausages in the recent competition, First timers Vic Hopkins & Son Family Butchers were very happy to come away with 4 Gold Awards. A record 310 independent butcher product entries were submitted at this year's South Wales heat of Hybu Cig Cymru / Meat Promotion Wales annual awards for butchers. The awards, which are called the 'South Wales Counties Awards for Excellence in Meat Products' were held in Swansea and quality and innovation were the watchwords as the entries featured new innovative products as well as the more traditional products. Graham Titchener, HCC's Marketing Executive, said: "The quality of the South Wales entries are getting better every year. The event showcased the amazing range of creative and innovative products produced by Wales' independent butchers, all designed with the consumer in mind." Top judges were recruited from all over the UK to sample the speciality sausages, pies, burgers, ready meals and home cured bacon and gammon entered from the length and breadth of south Wales at the New Tower Hotel in Swansea. |
